James N. Kinder, Jr., 86, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at Aldersgate Village.
James was born on January 2, 1921 in Rantoul, KS the son of James Nolan, Sr. and Margaret (Weinstein) Kinder.
He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1940.
James served in the U.S. Army as a Teletype Operator in Europe during WWII from 1942-1946.
James married Helen Beatty on June 27, 1947, in Topeka at First Baptist Church. They celebrated their 60th anniversary June 2007.
He worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a Printer Clerk, retiring after 35 years of service. As a second job he worked as a cement mason for many years.
James was a member of the First Baptist Church, Topeka.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; three daughters, Connie (Chuck) Bradshaw; Nancy (Glen) Albers; Ruth Martin; two sons, James N. III (Linda) and Timothy L. (Penny) Kinder; three siblings, Warren and Lawrence Kinder, and Bernice Stallons; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and four sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2007 at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, 820 S.W. Auburn Rd., Topeka. He will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
