James J. Olin, 78, Topeka, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Stormont-Vail Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Jim was born May 18, 1928 in Monett, Missouri, the son of James H. and Gladys Black Olin. He was a 1951 graduate of Southwestern Missouri State University and had a life-long career in heating and air conditioning sales.
Jim and Fran Ayres were married October 19, 1968 at First United Methodist Church, Topeka, KS, and had a long and happy marriage of almost thirty-nine years.
Jim, who stood 6'4" tall, was a big man in every sense of the word. His decency and kindness extended to a host of friends, who were always treated to his special blend of welcome and hospitality. His son and nephew considered him an outstanding role model. Jim enjoyed hunting, golf, travel, and most of all, his cabin at Lakeview Hunting and Fishing Club in Lawrence, KS, where he was an active member for 50 years.
He was a member of Downtown Kiwanis Club, Orient Lodge #51 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies and Arab Shrine, where he was a member of the Director's staff. He also belonged to the Lakeview Hunting and Fishing Association and Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include his wife, Frances A. Olin of the home; their son, J. Michael Ayres and wife, Linette and two grandchildren, Jordan and Kelsey of Olathe; his brother, Robert J. Olin and wife, Nancy of Des Moines, IA and a nephew, Sean Olin and wife, Tracy of Jacksonville, FL.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where Orient Lodge #51 AF&AM will conduct a Masonic service.
