James Hess passed peacefully on March 30, 2025 surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 30, 1938 to Arthur Ernest and Fern Nadine (La Rue) Hess in Waverly, Kansas.
James was raised on a farm in Waverly, Kansas. Later James was married to his wife, Phyllis of 63 years. He was a loving Dad to his three daughters; Sonya, Sherry, and Sandy and his son; Steven. He was also the proud grandfather to his grandson; Will. James was a role model of putting his family first and a pillar of strength and compassion. He will always be remembered as an outdoorsman, an armchair fan of the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs, a grill master, and a cruise enthusiast. We will cherish countless memories in our hearts forever.
He was a member of the Ironworkers Local 10 in Kansas City. He was proud of his accomplishments in his work contributing to the building of many bridges and buildings.
James is survived by his loving wife; Phyllis, daughters; Sonya (Alex Diaz) Hess, Sherry Hess, son; Steven Hess, and grandson; Will.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Sandy, a brother; John Hess and sisters; Charolette Jaimes, and Patricia Jaimes.
