The amazing James "Jim" Frank, 99, of Topeka KS, passed away Dec. 3, 2021, at Brewster Place.
He was born March 7, 1922, in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late Jacob and Addie (Klein) Frank, at 2 lb 6 oz.
A WWII Navy veteran, he volunteered for service in 1942, served in both theaters of war, and was discharged in 1945. He served on the USS Ludlow and the USS John Rodgers, being the last person off that vessel in Pearl Harbor before it was decommissioned.
After over 30 years of service with the Santa Fe Railroad, he retired as a Freight Claims Assistant Manager in 1987.
He was a member of the Countryside United Methodist Church in Topeka.
His wife, Violet "Vicky" (Mitchell) Frank preceded him in death on Sept 20, 2000, after 55 years of marriage. They met in Washington DC during WWII. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Bowers.
Jim is survived by 2 daughters - Jan Frank and husband Bruce Ross, Sherri Lamont and husband Pierre; 6 granddaughters - Ashley Monaghan, Kelley Iribarren and husband Tony, Jenny Ross, Clare Ross, Ella Ross, Jesslin Gonzales and Husband Brandon; 2 great-granddaughters – Kesley Tarnoff and Husband Travis, Baylee Iribarren; 1 great great-granddaughter – Becklin Tarnoff; sons-in-law – Richard McCaughey and Will Bowers; Favorite nephew – Richard Frank and wife Robin; and a multitude of friends.
Private Graveside Services will be held, with inurnment in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka KS. He requested no gifts and any memorials should be to the charity of one's choice.
