James Elliott Armfield

James Elliott Armfield, 81, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Topeka Presbyterian Manor. He was born on November 17, 1928 in Santa Ana, CA, the son of James "Bud" Hamilton and Glendine Marie Elliott Armfield. He graduated from Santa Ana High School and Santa Ana College where he obtained an Associate of Arts Degree. James entered the Navy in 1950, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired in 1970 after 20 years of duty. He was later employed by various Topeka hotels as a night auditor. James was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene. He married Margaret Jane Thompson on May 12, 1956 in Glendale, CA. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, James G. (Wanda) Armfield and Duane L. (Sydney) Armfield of Topeka, Daryl C. (Melody) Armfield of Olathe, six grandchildren, Joshua, Rebecca, Samuel, Jordan, Sara and Lydia. James was a fun loving husband and father and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. James will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to First Church of the Nazarene, 1001 S.W.
