James Donald Kidwell, 87, Auburn, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospice House in Bogart, GA.
He was born June 17, 1920 in Brown Co., KS, the son of Guy Christian and Joy Josephine McCauley Kidwell. He was raised in the Robinson area, graduating from Robinson Rural High School in 1938. He served in the US Army during WW2 and came to Topeka in 1952.
Don was a member of Grace United Methodist Church over 50 years, serving on many committees. He was also an active volunteer at Doorstep for many years. He worked for the US Postal Service for 30 years before retiring.
He married Lorena Mae Sherman. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1974. He married Betty Jo Furneaux on Jan. 17, 1975. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Karen Kay Coe and husband, Bob, of Statham, GA and Gwen Little of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Shirley Bruning of Denton, TX; two step-daughters, Beth Meyers and husband, Brandy, of Auburn and Becky Ferneaux of Portland, OR; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church with graveside services at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
