James Walter "Jim" Coward, 86, of Topeka, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020.
He was born April 12, 1934, in Shamrock, Texas, the son of Walter and Charlotte (Bruner) Coward. He graduated from Mobeetie High School in Texas and attended Texas Tech University. He then joined the United States Marine Corps and while on leave, he married Margaret Campbell in December 1954. Jim retired as First Lieutenant after serving his country for 26 years. After retirement, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in the mid 90s.
He was a member of the Marine Corps League. Jim loved fishing and being outdoors.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Harrington (Bruce), Topeka and Donna Kitchen (Wayne), Clearwater, Florida; two granddaughters, Lindsay (Austin) Adolphson and Hannah Harrington; and a great-granddaughter, Annabelle Adolphson, all of Topeka, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret on February 15, 2017, and his son, Jimmy Raymond on July 27, 1992.
Private graveside memorial services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
