James. C. Cunningham, 86, Topeka, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010.
Jim was born March 17, 1923 in Delia, the son of James and Catherine (Diehammer) Cunningham. He attended school in Delia. Upon graduation, he entered the U. S. Army and served during World War II and also the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the 75th Engineers.
Jim met Jessie Purden while on leave in Glasgow, Scotland. They were married on May 14, 1946 in Topeka.
Jim retired from the Colmery-O'Neil Veteran's Administration Hospital after 24 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years; son, James R. (Linda) Cunningham; daughter, Donna L. (Glenn) White, all of Topeka; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John A. Cunningham.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Jim will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. today and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
