James Brown

James S. Brown, 84, Topeka, died April 19, 2005 in Topeka.

He was born April 26, 1920 in Wichita, the only son of Lloyd S. and Cora E. Smith Brown. James graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1938 and attended Hutchinson Junior College and Kansas State University. He was called to federal service in December 1940 and served in the Army Air Force in Europe.

James worked for Moore Business Forms in Topeka for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Cosmopolitan Club, Scottish Rite and Arab Shrine where he was President of Greeters. James attended Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon. Later he was a member of Azan Temple in Melbourne, FL where he was Commodore of the Yacht Club.

James was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn, on May 29, 1996. Surviving are two daughters, Lynne Brown Irby, Topeka and Donna L. Brown of N. Palm Beach, FL; a son, Scott S. Brown, M.D. of Kansas City, MO; and grandchildren Julia and Rebecca Brown of Kansas City, MO.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
