Jackson E. "Jack" Hardacre, 87, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born August 26, 1925 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Charles J. and Sylvia M. Shrode Hardacre.
Jack graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, MO. He was a Navy Veteran, serving in WWII. He had resided in Topeka for over 50 years. He was employed as a PBX Repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 37 years before retiring. Jack was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He volunteered in the Talking Books Department at the Shawnee County/Topeka Public Library, the Kansas Historical Museum and the HOOPS Program at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Jack married Sharon J. Albright on June 20, 1954 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on February 20, 1999. Survivors include one daughter, Jan L. (Donald L.) Rankin of Topeka, one grandson, Adam Jack Rankin, one brother-in-law, one nephew, and two nieces.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church. Graveside committal services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Strong Township Cemetery, Strong City, KS. Jack will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
