Jackie D. Sims, 76, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2008.

Jackie was born July 22, 1932 in Paragould, AR, the son of Burl and Ethel (Hughes) Sims.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He owned and operated a Skelly service station at 29th & Fairlawn from 1966 to 1977, and later was a millwright at Midwest Millwright.

He married Montoy Davis on May 1, 1953 in Topeka. She died April 12, 2008. Survivors include sons; Rick D. Sims and wife, Teresa, Hoyt, Jerry R. Sims, Topeka, Trent E. Sims, Topeka and Eric D. Sims; seven grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Jackie will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
