Jack Mayfield, 100, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017. He was born February 21, 1917, in Stillwater Oklahoma, the son of Clarence E. and Susie E. (Spires) Mayfield, owners of the Palace Grocery store in Stillwater.
He attended Oklahoma A & M (Oklahoma State) University.
Jack was a WW II Army war veteran, serving 4 years, during WWII. He was a life member of Phillip Billard Veterans Post 1650.
He was married over 70 years to Janette Margaret Starkel. She preceded him in death in 2013.
Jack was an accountant for Fleming Cos. in Oklahoma City & Topeka. He retired in 1982 after over 30 years. At time of retirement he was controller of Flemings Cash and Carry Operations.
He was an active member of the First Christian Church, Topeka for over 50 years.
He had a life long passion for fishing. He and Janette spent many days at Lake Texoma, Oklahoma fishing, and hosting fish fries for family and friends.
He is survived by a sister, Nadine Choice of Burns Flat, OK; two sons: Dennis of Raleigh, NC, and Alan of Lenexa, KS, a granddaughter: Kate and two great-grandsons of Grand Junction, CO, in addition to many nephews and nieces.
His was a life well lived by a man who "enjoyed the moment"!
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at First Christian Church, 1880 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka. Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel.
