Jack L. Slade, 73, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2007 at a Wichita hospital. He was born on December 21, 1933 in Frankfort, the son of Lawrence and Stella Lucas Slade. He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1952. He was an Army veteran. He resided in Topeka from 1956 - 2005 before moving to Wichita. Jack was employed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for 42 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion. Jack married Shirley Rork in 1956 in Horton. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2000. Survivors include two sons, Stephen Slade and wife, Julie of Wichita, Greg Slade and wife, Lisa of Rose Hill, one daughter, Colleen Slade Fulton and son-in-law, John Fulton of Weston, MO, and six grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Fulton, L. Jordan and Katelynn Slade and Tyler Jack and Haley Slade. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Jack will not lie in state. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
