Jack H. Ford, 89, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015.
Jack was born August 24, 1925, to Walter H. and Nina Mae (Moore) Ford, in Elkhart, KS. He graduated from Grant County Rural High School in Ulysses in May 1943 and joined the United States Marine Corps the following August being discharged in 1946. He and Gloria A. Hammer were united in marriage on November 7, 1948. Jack is survived by his wife, of the home, daughter Deborah Kay and son, Alexander, of Seattle, WA, daughter Barbara Ann Norton and husband, Joe, of Wichita, KS, and daughter Mary Elizabeth and Guy Boulton, of Milwaukee, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mary Frances and Delma. In November 1947, Jack was elected Sheriff of Grant County and served in such office until joining the Kansas Highway Patrol in July 1953, stationed in Garden City and later Ulysses. In April 1960, Jack was accepted as a Special Agent with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and later promoted to Assistant Director in April 1975, before retiring in March 1987. Subsequently, he served as an investigator with Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services, and a special investigator for the Kansas Supreme Court, the Office of Disciplinary Administrator, Office of Judicial Administrator and the Commission on Judicial Qualifications until his retirement in March 1998. Jack was a member of the Kansas Peace Officers Association, the Kansas Sheriff's Association, Ulysses Lodge #435 AF&AM and Ulysses American Legion Post #79. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in November 1957.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. The family will greet friends following the service. There will be a private family inurnment at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
