J. Roger Hendrix, 67, Topeka, died Sunday, April 9, 2006 at Midland Hospice House.
Roger was born Oct. 6, 1938 in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of Clark and Josephine Cole Hendrix. He grew up in Coffeyville and graduated from Field Kinley High School in 1956, where he was a state champion swimmer. He went on to graduate from the University of Kansas in 1960, and from Washburn University School of Law in 1964.
He was a member of the Kansas and Topeka Bar Associations. He was licensed to practice law in the United States Court of Claims, the United States District Court for the District of Kansas and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He practiced law for 40 years in Topeka and at the time of his death, he was in partnership with Mark Bennett.
He challenged himself each weekend on the golf course with his loyal golf buddies (when the weather was good!). He was also a diehard Jayhawk fan who enjoyed getting together with his friends to watch the games.
He married Jan Buenning Edwardson on June 11, 1976 in Topeka. He is survived by his wife, and four children: Jennifer Hendrix Nelson and husband, Jim, Durango, CO; Traci Edwardson Callandrillo and husband, Tony, Austin, TX; Eric Edwardson and wife, Anna, Beaumont, TX; and Sarah Hendrix and her fiance, Tucson, AZ. He also has four grandchildren: Ashley, Will, Henry, and Adam. Two brothers also survive: Cole Hendrix, Keswick, VA and Richard Hendrix, Coffeyville, KS. He was preceded in death by his son, Andy Hendrix in 1979.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. David's Episcopal Church. Cremation will follow the service with private inurnment in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Hendrix will lie in state from noon to 9:00 pm Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
