J. Ilene McAtee, 96 of Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Midland Hospice. She was born on March 5, 1913 in Topeka, KS to H.H. and Elizabeth Bruce Delk.
She was a graduate from Highland Park High School. On June 8, 1933 she married Eslie H. McAtee. She was the head cook for the Masonic Temple and she taught kindergarten Sunday school at Grace United Methodist Church for several years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Beulah Chapter No. 34 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ancient Toltec Rite No. 1, Social Order of the Beauceant, Shrine Widows Club and the Kappa Sigma Mothers.
Survivors include a son David McAtee and his wife Marge, Lakewood, CO; a daughter Linda Massey and her husband Joseph, Lyndon, KS; five grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her siblings Ted and Grace and her grandson Steven.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. McAtee will lie in state on Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the J.
