Isabel Tero
Isabel Tero, 88, died November 27, 2002, at aTopeka nursing home.
She was born August 14, 1914, in Topeka, to Benjamin H. and Mary Roy Chalmers Tarpey. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She moved to California in 1978 and returned to Topeka in 1991.
Mrs. Tero worked for the Santa Fe Railroad 30 years and retired in 1978. She was a member of the Topeka Santa Fe Retired Employees Club. She was a volunteer director and tutor for two years at the Laubach Literacy Center in Livermore, California, following retirement.
She married William W. Tero on July 5, 1944, in Topeka. He died June 13, 1968.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary J. Shaw, Topeka.
Mrs. Tero was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Topeka, and was active in Faith Service Guild/LWML. She was also a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church while she lived in Livermore, California, and was active in the Altar Guild.
Graveside Services will be held at 9:00 AM Monday, December 2, 2002 at Mount Hope Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held a Faith Lutheran Chruch at 11:00AM, Monday, December 2, 2002.
Memorial contributions' may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Boulevard, Topeka, 66604 or to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St., Topeka, 66614.
Mrs. Tero will lie in state from Noon to 9:00 PM, Sunday December 1, 2002 at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel. The family will receive friends and relat from 3:30-5:30PM that evening.
