Irwin S. Coulson, 91, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011, at his home.
God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea. The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night. The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagles's flight. God combined these qualities, There was nothing more to add. His masterpiece was now complete, He lovingly called it, Dad.
He was born April 25, 1920 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Orla and N. June (Welch) Coulson. He was a graduate of Topeka High School. Irwin was employed by the State of Kansas retiring in 1990. In 1944, Irwin proudly served his country with the Army Air Force. Irwin married Dorothy Strickland on December 8, 1947, in Topeka. She preceded him in death in January 15, 1999.
Survivors include four children, Jennifer (Larry) Kennedy, Lawrence, KS, Susie (Bill) Kennedy, Topeka, Tomi (Alan) Skarie, Aurora, CO and Mike (Sandy) Coulson, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; 10 grandchildren, Josh and Katy Kennedy, Leslee Kennedy, Shawn Franklin, Misty and Eric Stofer, Emily and Elizabeth Kennedy, Sarah and Chris Khronfeldt, Kelly Skarie, Greg and Erin Newman, and Brad and Laura Newman, 5 great-grandchildren.
