Irven C. Avey, 88, of Topeka, KS, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family.
Irven was born Nov. 19, 1917 in Weldona, CO, son of Charles and Blanche (Grover) Avey. He attended school in Webster, KS and Lawrence, KS. After graduating from Liberty Memorial High School in 1937, he enlisted in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 in the Radio Maintenance division. He later graduated from Watchmakers School in Los Angeles in 1947 as a Horologist.
He was united in marriage to Orinda H. Stull on Sept. 29, 1947 in Stull, KS.
Irven was employed by Samples Jewelry Store, Lawrence, KS, Watson Jewelry Store, Topeka, KS, and retired after 30 years of service from Briman's Jewelers, Topeka, KS in 1981.
He was a member of the former Seabrook Congregational Church of Christ and was a current member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Memberships included Topeka Watchmaker Guild, Golden Rule Lodge #90, Scottish Rite, and the Shrine Arab Patrol.
Surviving him are his wife of 58 years, daughters, Delores (Dee) Miller, Stillwater, OK, Deborah and Steve Esquibel, Topeka, KS, grandchildren, Heather (Robert) Black, Stillwater, OK, Amber (Tracie) Rome, Topeka, KS, Tanner Miller, Edmond, OK, Kiel Esquibel, Topeka, KS, Angela Esquibel, Topeka, KS, and Christopher (Jenna) Esquibel, Overland Park, KS, seven great grandchildren and sisters, Vona Axline, Edmond, OK and Lila Patton, Lawrence, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ilert, sisters, Fern Bunce-Pringle, Zora Cottom, Mildred Yoder, and Bonnie Lillard, and son-in-law, Darrell Miller.
Funeral services for Irven will be at 11 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka, KS. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka. He will lie in state after 12 noon, Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. that evening.
