Irma W. Phifer, 92, of Pflugerville, TX, formerly of Topeka, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017.
She was born August 21, 1924 in Gladstone, NE, the daughter of Carl and Matilda (Dux) Iwert.
Irma graduated from Mahaska High School in 1943. She then attended the Brown Mackey Business School in Salina.
She went to work for Kiesel's Department Store in Salina for several years before marrying John H. Phifer in 1947 and moving to a farm near Haddam, KS. She and her family moved to Topeka in 1960. She then began working for Security Benefit Life Insurance Co., retiring in 1992 after 31 years of service.
Irma loved to garden and go to church. She was very active in neighborhood improvement projects but loved to remain close to her home and spend time with her family.
She is survived by her two sons, Gerald D. Phifer (Kathleen) of Topeka and Daniel G. Phifer (Audry Rush) of Perry, KS; three grandchildren, Jonathan Phifer (Shawna) of Topeka, Amber Phifer (Damian Forrest) of San Antonio, TX and Rosa Martinez (Richard) of Pflugerville, TX and many great grandchildren.
Irma was preceded by all of her siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW. 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
