Iris Jean Koehlar, 84, received her wings to heaven on Monday, November 21, 2016.
Iris was born on August 12, 1932, in Cedar Creek, AR, to Ernest and Lyda Hayes. She was a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She was a beautiful, funny, intelligent, strong, and religious woman. Iris lived in Kansas for many years working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield while raising two children on her own. When Iris retired, she enjoyed traveling and visiting her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her husband, Art Koehlar; two daughters, Linda Curtis and husband, Les, and Barbara Troupe and her husband, Ken; three grandsons, Joshua Curtis and his wife, Carissa, Blaine Curtis and his girlfriend, Dawn, and Nate Curtis and his wife, Jessica; three great-grandchildren, Arianna Curtis, Adeline Curtis, and Declan Curtis; brother, Jim Hayes; sister, Ernestine Combs and her husband, Norm; aunt, Dale Oliver of Fort Smith, AR; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a brother-in-law.
A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS.
A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at First Southern Baptist Church, 1912 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66604. Lunch will be provided for family and friends at the church from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, 820 S.W. Auburn Road, Topeka, KS.
