Irene graduated from Lawrence High School in 1965. Irene then earned her cosmetology license in 1967. She worked in salons in downtown Topeka until opening her own salon, Avenue Hair Styling in 1988. After closing the salon, she continued to work because of the purpose and fulfillment it gave her.
Irene enjoyed painting landscapes of scenes from growing up in Kansas, mountain scenes from travels to the Rockies, and ocean scenes from travels with her husband on his diving trips. Irene, very proudly, had one of her paintings published on the cover of the Journal of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association in 1985.
Additionally, Mrs. Redman took much pleasure in planting, cultivating, harvesting, and preserving the food she grew. She was a talented seamstress and needle worker who could make just about anything. She believed in helping others and volunteered for various causes throughout her life. Most recently she, and her husband Steve, delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels group in Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels - Topeka 2134 SW Westport Drive, Topeka, KS 66614.
