Irene H. Gordon, 99, of Topeka, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011.
Irene H. Gordon was born January 12, 1912, in Ozawkie, daughter of Daniel and Chloe (Stark) Baker. She graduated from Ozawkie High School in 1930. Irene married E. Orville Gordon on September 12, 1940, in Lawrence; they were lifelong residents of the Ozawkie area. She worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years in Ozawkie, retiring as Post Master on January 3, 1985.
Irene was member of Order of Eastern Star #62, Rebekah Lodge #657, Hays Grange & Mount Pleasant Grange #1445, a Charter Member of NARF #2232 in Valley Falls, and lifelong member of Ozawkie United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Tom) Gorrell, Topeka; grandchildren, Malinda (Ross) Truog, Spring Hill, FL, and Kyle (Cheryl) Gorrell, Olathe; great-grandchildren, Maia and Madilyn Truog, and Calista and Elliott Gorrell, and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and two brothers.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011, at Mount Hope Cemetery- Mausoleum Chapel, Topeka. Entombment will be at Mount Hope Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association, 837 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67211. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, is assisting the family with arrangements.
