Irene E. Harrison, 86, Topeka passed away Thursday March 16 at Homestead Assisted Living. Irene was born on February 26, 1920 in Greenleaf, Kansas the daughter of Henry and Martha Bulk. Irene graduated from Waterville High School and came to Topeka following graduation to attend Strickler's business school. After graduating from Strickler's she worked for the State of Kansas, Social and Rehabilitation Services for 33 years. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church where she as active in the World Relief Quilters Group and Dorcas bible study program.
She married Walter "Gene" Harrison on December 31, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1994. A brother, Otto Bulk, preceded her in death.
Irene is survived by her three sons, Bill Harrison, Lenexa, Kansas, Don Harrison, Keller, Texas and Robert Harrison, Topeka. She also leaves two sisters, Ruby Mark and Edna Bisel a brother, Herb Bulk and seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Homestead Assisted Living; Irene's sisters, Ruby and Edna and brother Herb and his wife Mildred for their generous and compassionate care during Irene's illness.
Mrs. Harrison will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Monday March 20 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 21 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, with burial to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
