Ione Y. Grier, 86, of Topeka, passed away Friday, November 4, 2005 at Aldersgate Village.
She was born July 8, 1919 in Kenton, Ohio, the daughter of Halsey D. and Esther (Peacock) Youngs.
She graduated from Marysville College in Tennessee with a bachelors degree in home econonmics. She then received a masters degree in special education from the University of Kansas. She taught at the Kansas Neurological Institute from 1966, retiring in 1981. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, participating in Womens Circle activities as well as serving as an Elder and Deacon. She was also a member of P.E.O and A.A.U.W. She was fond of traveling and was a devoted wife and mother.
She married William R. Grier on August 7, 1972 in Topeka. He survives. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Other survivors include two daughters, Susan Spage and her husband Bill of rural Virginia and Gwen Murphy of Plano, Texas; two step-sons, William Grier of Kauai, Hawaii and Timothy Grier of Forest Lake, Arizona; one step-daughter, Marcia Jeglum and her husband John of Portland, Oregon; five grandechildren and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 8, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church with inurnment to follow in mount Hope Mausoleum.
