Inez E. Shields

Inez E. Shields, 63, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2006 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on March 6, 1942 in Parsons, the daughter of Robert and Della Stell Powell. She graduated from Parsons public schools. Inez came to Topeka in 1979. She was employed in the engineering department for the State of Kansas for 23 years before retiring on December 5, 1995. She was also a certifed medication aid. Inez was a member of Open Arms Outreach Ministries, C.O.G. I.C. She served as one of the greatest foster parents. Inez married George Shields on March 8, 1982 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Anderson-Fields, two sons, Kenneth Anderson, Michael Anderson all of Topeka, 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one sister, Wilma Jean Simmons of Topeka. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Louise Moore. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Church, Church of God in Christ, S.E. 6th & California. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery. Inez will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-800 p.m. Thursday evening.
