Ilene M. Mounkes
January 27, 1927 — August 16, 2015
Ilene M.(Zerfas) Mounkes, 88 of Topeka, Kansas (formerly of Tecumseh, Ks.), passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at McCrite Nursing Home. She was born on January 12, 1927 at Ellis, Kansas to Fred and Jennie (Armbruster) Zerfas. Ilene was a graduate of Ellis High School.
She married Alphus "Al" C. Mounkes on April 16, 1946, at Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis, Kansas. Alphus passed away on May 12, 2009. They celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Ilene worked for many years at the Merchants National Bank of Topeka and at several Credit Unions. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church Topeka, KS., and was a Heritage Member of the Church (50 years and longer).
Mrs.
Mounkes is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great -nephews.
A special "thank you" to the staff at McCrite Nursing Home for their excellent care of Ilene!
Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at First Lutheran Church, 1234 S.W. Fairlawn Rd, Topeka, Ks. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Ellis, Kansas.
Mrs. Mounkes will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. on Friday August 21, 2015 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
