Ilene Jeanette McCloskey
Ilene Jeanette McCloskey, 85, of Topeka passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at a Topeka hospital.
Jeannie was born Oct. 8, 1919, in Denver, CO, the daughter of Rachael Gordon Ferguson and Duane M. Kline, Sr. She graduated from East Denver High School and attended the University of Denver and the University of Kansas. As a small child she lived in the mountains of Peru where her father was a mining engineer. While in Peru she learned to speak Quechua. She returned to Denver and spent her summers in the mining town of Rico, CO. Jeannie enjoyed classical music, good books, current events and biographies, American Impressionist, old Ronald Coleman movies, and Hyacinth Bucket. She was a charter member of the Dier's Club and had a dry sense of humor.
She married John R. McCloskey on February 22, 1941, in Kansas City, MO. She was a homemaker. She moved to Topeka in 1995 from Reddings Mill, MO. Her sister, her parents, and her husband of 38 years preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Robert Ian McCloskey and his wife Jodie, Tulsa, OK, a daughter Carol Ann Benoit and her husband Harold, Topeka, KS, and a brother, Dr. Duane M. Kline, Jr. and his wife Joanna, Cheyenne, WY, and a granddaughter, Rachel McCloskey, Tulsa, OK.
She was cremated. A memorial service is scheduled at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 12, North Topeka Wesleyan Church, 1201 NW Central Ave. Internment will occur later in Joplin, MO.
