Ignacio Zapata

Ignacio "Nacho" Zapata, 87, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at a local hospital.

Ignacio was born February 1, 1921 in McFarland, the son of Roberto and Ramona (Munoz) Zapata.

He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Santa Fe Bowling League.

Survivors include a brother, Inocencio "Ivan" Sapata; five nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Zapata.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Ignacio will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel from 2:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday and a visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the rosary recited at 7:00 p.m.
