Ignacio Esic Rodriguez, 97, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
He was born July 30, 1916, in Cebu City, Philippines, the son of Alfonso and Fabiana (Esic) Rodriguez. Ignacio married Filomena Lecera in Cebu City, Philippines. He was a farmer. In April 1993, Ignacio became U.S. citizen.
Mr. Rodriguez was a member of the St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Ignacio was employed for 11 years in the U.S. He was a bike assembler at Wal-Mart and continued riding his bike until he was 95 years old. He also cleaned at Sears. He loved to garden as well as loved World News, The Weather Channel and the Lawrence Welk Show. He loved to read, which included the Bible, the dictionary and medical dictionary. He loved making "things" as he was a very creative man and a joker.
Survivors include his children, Rogelio Rodriguez, Leonila Billau, Elias Rodriguez, Jose Rodriguez, Cecilia Dugaduga, Helen Teater, and Romel Rodriguez; 42 grandchildren, seven who reside in Topeka, Anafe Hall, Luke Thompson, Lorraine Teater, Stephanie Teater Rexford Rodriguez, Rexeglair Rodriguez and Calvin Teater; two sisters, Eusebia R. Magallano and Paula R. Saldero and two brothers, Alejandro E. Rodriguez and Teburcio E. Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his wife on July 5, 2010. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Noneta Sarte and a son, Obedidum Rodriguez.
A rosary will be prayed at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel with visitation to follow from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 2 at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to provide memorial services in the Philippines.
