Ida May Willson, 84 Topeka, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Midland Hospice House. She was born January 7, 1921 in Dorrance, the daughter of Floyd and Ida Grace Ruby Willson. Ida May had lived in Topeka 59 years. She graduated from Asbury School of Nursing in Salina in 1943. She was a World War II Navy Nurse from 1944 to 1946. After her discharge, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Stormont-Vail from 1946 to 1949. She continued as a nurse, working at the Goodyear Plant in Topeka until her retirement in 1986.
Ida May was an associate member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star at Bunker Hill, the Goodyear Leisure Club and the American Legion Post 400.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth Phillips, Topeka, a brother, Donald Willson, Wichita and 20 nieces and nephews. Her parents and seven brothers, Verne, Edward, Emery, Lawrence, Lee Roy, Dean and Duane, preceded her in death.
Although she never had children of her own, she cared for and touched many lives especially those near and dear to her.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Pohlman-Heise Mortuary in Russell on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at the Bunker Hill Cemetery.
Miss Willson will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. She will also lie in state at the Pohoman-Heise Mortuary after 9:00 A. M. on Wednesday until service time.
