Hubert T. "H.T." Rookstool, 85, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at his home after a short but valiant battle with cancer.
H.T. was born November 18, 1920 in Oconto, Nebraska, the son of Charles Raleigh and Sadie Maude (Martin) Rookstool. He grew up on a farm in Custer County, Nebraska.
In 1954 he started a sewing machine business in Nebraska which is still in existence. Moving to Topeka in 1969, he worked in the housing industry, having been associated with Capp Homes, Miles Homes, President Homes and his own company, Heartland Homes.
He was a charter member of the North Platte Moose Lodge and an associate in the Topeka Lodge.
H.T. married Mae Coffman on October 29, 1938 in Norton, Kansas. Mae passed away in 1998. He will be missed by his children; Meryce Clemmons and husband, Bruce, Charles "Chuck" Rookstool, Pam Lowder and husband, Ray, all of Topeka, Kansas, Ted Rookstool, Una VonBehren and husband, Ron, and Kent Rookstool, all of Grand Island, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Juanita Plankinton, Topeka. He was preceded in death by brothers; Wesley and Guy and sisters; Esther Bailey and Una Malcom.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Mr. Rookstool will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. An additional funeral service will be held at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, Nebraska on Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Ansley Cemetery in Ansley, Nebraska. Mr. Rookstool will lie in state at the Govier Brothers Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
