Howard M. McKnight, 89, of Topeka, died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at a Topeka hospital. He was born on May 19, 1915 at Eskridge, Ks., the son of Henry David and Lottie Eunice Adolph McKnight. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 13 years. He then became a carpenter and was employed by several local construction companies. He was a member of Carpenters Union Local 1445. He married Dolores Lavern Senne Tarr on March 17, 1946 in Marion, Ks. She preceded him in death on July 1, 1996. He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Steven McKnight on December 28, 1954. Survivors include one son, Troy Howard McKnight and his wife, Tina of Topeka, two daughters, Patricia Gayl Dodds and her husband Roger of Topeka, Kim Susan West and her husband, Tom of Topeka, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Robert E. McKnight of Topeka and one sister, Doris Frye of Lemon Grove, California. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. McKnight will lie in state after noon Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
