Howard F. Akin, Sr.,73, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the Colmery O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka. He was born on February 11, 1933 in Home City the son of Fred O. and Florence Akin. He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was employed by Lewis Furniture for 35 years before retiring due to health reasons. Howard married Norma J. Osborne on May 30, 1954 in Blue Rapids, KS. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1999. He was also preceded in death by one son, Gary W. Akin on December 21, 1973. Survivors include two sons, Howard Akin, Jr. of Goodyear AZ, James Akin of Topeka, a daughter, Pamela Levanduski of Topeka, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, his aunt, Olinda Boyd of Topeka and one sister, Judy Weber of Colorado. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Howard will lie in state after Noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00.
