Howard Duane Dankert

Howard Duane Dankert , 80, passed away January 13, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. He was born October 26, 1933 in Grand Island, Nebraska the son of T.J. and Viola Loeffelbein Dankert.

Howard was baptized November 23, 1933 and confirmed March 13, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from East High in Wichita, Kansas.

On May 24, 1953 he married Marilyn Darlene Miller and they later divorced. On September 23, 1972, he married Idell M. Wilson and enjoyed 41 years of marriage. Howard has been a resident of Topeka since 1973 and a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He was a master craftsman, who loved working with wood and making furniture and keepsakes for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also made some beautiful pieces for Faith Lutheran Church. Howard is defined by his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ, his love for his family, and his ability to fix almost anything.

He is survived by wife, Idell Dankert; six children, Debra Bleier, Diane Blackwood, Denise Sanderson, Ingrid Huelsnitz, Blake "Brownie" Wilson, and Stephanie Kocher; brother, Ted (Barbra) Dankert; sister, Dorthy (Jim) Slaughter; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Private interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
