Howard D. Caldwell, 71, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 7 at a local hospital.
He was born September 29, 1933 in Kincaid, the son of A.B. and Florence Caldwell.
He graduated from Burlington High School in 1951. He worked with his father and brother at the Caldwell Implement Company in Burlington for several years. He then owned and operated the Rocking R Motel while attending Washburn University. In 1964 he opened Audit Tax Service in Burlington. In 1986, he moved to Topeka where he continued his accounting and tax business. At the time of his death, he was president of Accounting Center Inc. and recently celebrated 40 years in the business. Howard was a longtime member of Heartland Kiwanis in Topeka and was a member and past president of Public Accountants Association of Kansas and various other clubs. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and everyone whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife Chae, two daughters; Bonnie and Brenda and their families; a son Clayton and his family, a step daughter, Cho Ann Hughes, a stepson, Adam A Hughes, a brother, Carol Caldwell; a sister Charline Emens and 8 grandchilden.
Mr. Caldwell will lie in state after 1:00 pm, today at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 am Saturday, April 9 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery.
