7. Background: Mr. Swanson was a veteran of WW2 and served with the 13th Armored Division. After his
service was completed, he attended Kansas State College where he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical
engineering. He spent most of his working career with the firm of Van Doren & Hazard. He retired from the firm
as a partner in 1987. Mr. Swanson was a registered engineer in the State of Kansas since 1949. During his working
career, he had been registered to practice engineering in 13 other states. Mr. Swanson was a member of Trinity
Presbyterian Church and was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church for many years.
