Howard Arden Carder, 86, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
He was born June 11, 1924 in Topeka, KS, the son of Arden and Viola (Barrie) Carder. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II. He was a graduate of Topeka High School and received a Bachelors Degree in Law from Kansas University. Howard was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during WW II, achieving the rank of Captain.
Mr. Carder retired after 37 years from Blue Cross and Blue Shield located in Rochester, Topeka and Chicago as a Sr. System Analyst. He was a member of Orient Lodge #51 of A.F& A.M., Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Gamma Nu Chapter and Evanston Post 42 of American Legion, Evanston, IL.
Howard married Theola Ann Morgan on January 22, 1944 in Garden City, KS. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2009. Survivors include a son, Michael (Nancy) Carder, of Glenview, IL; a daughter, Kathleen Schmidt, Topeka; 2 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.
A graveside ceremony with military honors will be 11 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Carder will lie in state after 1 p.m., Sunday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Masonic services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orient Lodge No. 51, 2300 SW 30th Street, Topeka, KS 66611or to Evanston Post No. 42, 1030 Central St., Evanston, IL 60021.
