Howard R. Anderson

Howard R. Anderson of Topeka, Kansas was born September 6, 1919 in Partridge, Kansas, the son of Benton R. and Madge A. (Goudy) Anderson. He passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 in Topeka, Kansas. He was 101 years old.

Upon graduating from Partridge High School, he continued his education at Kansas State University and received his BS degree in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and remained in reserve until 1954. He returned to Kansas State University in 1948 where he earned a MS Degree in Economics and Communication. Most of his working career was in the marketing phase of the Machine Tool Industry. After retiring from that line of work in 1983, he devoted time to tuning and rebuilding pianos.

Howard was a member of the Rotary West in Topeka and the Masonic Lodge in Claremont, New Hampshire. Howard also pursued several hobbies. He was a musician and spent several hours at the piano weekly. He was a skilled craft man and designed and built furniture. He wrote a series of emails to friends and family by which he chronicled his adventures. Howard also was extra class Ham Radio operator with call sign AA0RP. Finally he was an avid coffee drinker and enjoyed connecting with friends at various locations in Topeka. Howard loved his family and his friends and took great joy in the time he spent with them.

Howard married Virginia E. Hallman on November 20, 1957 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 3, 1985. He later married Frances Richard on October 17, 1986 in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2015.

Survivors include his children, Lyle S. (Rose) Anderson of Green Valley, Arizona, Ellen A. Burns of Aurora, Colorado, Carol A. (Jim) Pepper of Wilmington, Delaware and Miriam A. Byrns of Smithfield, Nebraska; grandchildren, Caitlin (Edward) Eastman, Brendan (Tara) Burns, Christopher (Mackenzie) Burns, Graham Pepper, Hudson Pepper, and Nicholas Byrns, and great-granddaughter, Annie Eastman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, sisters, Jeanne Barnes and Rita Perrin, and son-in-law, Brian Burns.

Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16,2021 at the Partridge Cemetery in Partridge, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Partridge Community Church, 218 Main St, Partridge, KS 67566.
