Hope Marie Porras

Hope (Lopez) Porras, 67, of Topeka, passed away on January 7, 2014.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 23, 1946. She graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago in 1964. She moved to Kansas in 1980 where she raised her two children, Monica and Mario. Hope worked as a Claims Assistant Supervisor at Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Topeka, KS for 20 years.
Those that knew Hope, knew that she had a kind heart and generous spirit. Her smile and laughter would light up a room. People could always count on Hope to be a good listener. She loved to decorate to celebrate the holidays. She had festive holiday jewelry for any occasion. Even greater than her love of the holidays, was her love for Facebook games and her TV. Hope made countless online friends while playing a variety of Facebook games. She would often get up early to tend to her online farm. When she wasn't playing games, she could be found every night in her rocking chair watching her favorite TV shows! She loved her shows so much she had two DVR's!
However, Hope's greatest joy in life was her family. Hope is preceded in death by her parents, John & Theresa Lopez. Hope is survived by her two children Monica (Ron) Lopez-Reese and Mario (Precious) Porras; her sister, Vicki (Felix) Padron; her brother John (Fran) Lopez; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also has five nephews and one niece, as well as seven great-nephews and nieces. She had an amazing support system of family, including her comadres, compadres and cousins.
Hope was cremated. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, Topeka. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. The family of Hope Porras wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Grace Hospice & Lexington Park Nursing Facility for their kindness and generosity.
