Homer Jameson George Homer Jameson, 92, Topeka, passed away Saturday, Aug. 28th., 2004 at Aldersgate Village. He was born April 2, 1912 at Garrison, Kansas to George H. and Emma Swan Jameson. He spent his early years on the family farm near Garrison graduating from Garrison High School in 1929. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1935 as Landscape Architect. He was a member of the Aphi Rho Chi social fraternity and the Horticulture Club.
After graduating he was employed by The Menninger Foundation to landscape their grounds and supervise their grounds department and later became the Director of the Physical Plant Department. 1936 - 1977.
He was active in the Lowman United Methodist Church, in state and local horticultural organizations, Boy Scouts, Optimists, Topeka Beautification Assoc., and numerous other civic organizations. He was president of the Association of Kansas Landscape Architects, The Central Plains Turfgrass Association, and the Kansas State Horticultural Society. He served the Boy Scouts of America as a District Chairman, member of the Jayhawk Council, Scoutmaster of Troop 15, and Advisor of Explore Post 15. He received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a 62 year member of the Downtown Optimist Club. He helped establish The Kansas Landscape Arboretum and served on the board for many years. He was an avid bridge player and fisherman.
He has been a member of Lowman United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class since 1937. He served on the Board of Trustees of the church for many years.
He was married to Olive Weaver of Garden City, Kansas on June 30, 1935. She died in May 1999. A sister, Ruth Green preceded him in death in 2002, and brother Paul Jameson in July 2004. Survivors include daughters, Marilyn Morris, her husband Lloyd, Karen Jameson, of Topeka; son, Robert Jameson, and his wife Yvonne, of Kansas City, Missouri. Three grandsons, Richard Morris and fiancé Pat Tetuan, Steve Morris and wife Cindy of Topeka, and Brad Morris of Wichita, one granddaughter, Stacy Bungiro and husband Rick of Madison, Conn., four great-grandsons, two great granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Lowman United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Jameson will lie in state from noon Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel where the family will greet friends and relatives from 7:00PM to 8:00PM.
