Herman F. Dale, 88, of Topeka passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at a Topeka hospital.
He was born July 7, 1918 in Fairview, KS, the son of C. Fred and Melda Diller Dale.
He graduated from Fairview High School in 1937, and then attended Clark's Business School.
Herman served in the 65th Infantry during World War II. After returning home from the service, he married Rachel Kruse of Fairview, on March 23, 1947.
He went to work for Kaw Valley Produce as an accountant and spent 35 years with the Cohen Enterprises. Herman was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for over 60 years serving in a variety of capacities including elder, trustee, and Sunday School teacher. He was active in the Lutheran Laymen's League. Herman loved gardening and bowling. He and Rachel enjoyed traveling, touring all 50 states, and parts of Canada.
They lived the past 3 years at Lexington Park Independent Living. He is survived by his wife, Rachel, of 60 years; his children Roberta (Bill) Weiss of Tucson, Galen (Carolyn) Dale, and Duane (Kathy) Dale, all of Topeka. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Michael Weiss, Robin Byrne, Aaron, Kara, Jonathan, and Elizabeth Dale, and two great-grandchildren, Zenia and Brianna Weiss.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 18, at 10:30am at St. John's Lutheran Church.
Herman will lie in state after 2:00 pm Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm Sunday.
