Herlinda "Linda" Valdivia Holmes, 89, of Topeka, passed away April 11, 2009.
Linda was born March 23, 1920 in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico to Rito Valdivia and Leonile Mata. Her family immigrated to Topeka from Mexico when she was a small child. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, a member of the Alter Society, and she helped with the annual Fiesta at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Linda loved gardening, crocheting, and embroidery.
Survivors include ten sisters; Angelina Valdivia, Victoria Campos, Hazel (John) Rocha, Maria (Tony) Chavez, Lucy (Calixto) Martin, Carmen Torres, Susan (John) Perez, Monica (David) Matchett, and Mary Ann (Carlos) Tejada, three brothers; Rito (Bertha) Valdivia, Angel (Mary) Valdivia, and Raymundo Valdivia, all of Topeka, several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Linda is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edmund Holmes, who passed away in 2001, a sister, Frances Hernandez, and a brother, Tony Valdivia.
Linda will lie in state after 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 14th, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm, with visitation to follow until 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 15th, 2:00 pm, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Father John Cordes will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
