Herbert L. "Herb" Mayer, 86, of Maple Hill, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021.
He was born May 4, 1935, in Wetmore, Kansas, the son Harvey and Rose (Wegman) Mayer. He graduated from Wetmore High School.
Herb worked at GoodYear Tire & Rubber Company for 38 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of United Rubber Workers 307, American Legion Post 400, and Moose Lodge 555. He was a past member of Maple Hill Congregational Church.
On April 30, 1955, he married Wilma J. Fritch in Centralia. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2010. He was also preceded in death by parents, and three siblings, Mildred, Arlie, and David.
Survivors include two sons, Brad (Irene) Mayer, and Tom (Crystal) Mayer all of Maple Hill; five grandchildren: Brian (Suzanne) Mayer; Jenn Mayer; Aaron (RaeLynn) Mayer; Katie Mayer (Trace Tobin); Olivia Mayer; five great-grandchildren: Mahliq, Mahki, Taetum, Gracie, and Hattie; three siblings, Carolyn, Harvey, and Rosalie; and close friend Becky Palmer.
Herb was an avid gardener and enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and crafting; but most of all enjoyed being with his family.
Memorial services will be 10 am, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Private burial will be next to his wife, Wilma at Maple Hill Cemetery.
