Herbert L. Orr

Herbert L. Orr, 80, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009.

He was born November 19, 1928 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the son of James Elmer and Dory Bell (Edwards) Orr. He served in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Orr was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Rubber Workers Union, Local No. 307 and Goodyear Retirees Club.

Herbert married Darlene J. Montfoort on April 9, 1949 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Herbert L. Orr, Jr., Dan R. Orr, Dennis M. Orr; two sisters, Mary Hess and Dot Connor; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, William Rick Orr in 2000, and siblings, Jack Edwards, Evelyn Legan and Howard "Pete" Orr.

His hobbies include fishing, hunting, woodworking, traveling and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to American Lung Association, 2400 Troost Ave, #4300, K.C., MO 64108
