Herbert George Stewart of Topeka, passed away on November 12, 2003 at Midland Hospice. Memorial services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church today (November 14th) at 1:30 PM.
Born July 15, 1919 in Topeka, the son of Edwin Justin and Merle Crouch Stewart, Herb graduated from Topeka High School in 1937 and earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1941. He married Betty Jean Stewart of Topeka on September 20, 1942. He completed four years military service as a captain and served with the 494th Fighter Squadron of the 48th Fighter Group in the European theater during WWII.
Herb worked for the Insurance Company of North America, now CIGNA, for thirty-two years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. In retirement, Herb also served as a member and volunteer with the Lions Club and the Elks Club in Kimberling City, MO and held several church offices.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean, a son, Gary Allan Stewart and his wife, Kathy, of Plano, Texas, a granddaughter, Kimberly Anne Hampton and her husband Lance, and one great grandson, Max Hampton, of Frisco, TX.
Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1275 Boswell, Topeka, KS 66604 or Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
