Herald "Bud" W. Zimmerman, 84, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday February 23, 1999 at his home.
He was born April 18, 1914 at Topeka, the son of William H. and Pearl Tabor Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman has resided in the Topeka area most of his life.
Mr. Zimmerman was a farmer in the Dover area. He also worked as a bus driver/janitor for USD #301 in Dover, and worked in housekeeping at the Comlery-ONeil Veterans Medical Center from 1970 until his retirement in 1975.
He was a military veteran serving in the United States Army during World War II. He served with the 5th Armored Division from 1941-1945 in the European Theater Operations. He was a member of Topeka North Post #400 American Legion and Philip Billard Post #1650 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was married to Vivian L. Patterson May 6, 1950 at Topeka. She survives at the home. Other survivors include: two sons, Leslie Zimmerman of Dublin, TX and John Zimmerman of La Junta, Co; three daughters, Judith A. Shumate of Topeka, KS, Linda Beach of Topeka, KS and Lois Headley of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Rocksie Kahler of Topeka, KS; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday February 26, 1999 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at the Dover Cemetery. Mr. Zimmerman will lie in state after 12:00 noon Thursday at the funeral home where the family will greet from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
