Henry "Hank" Meinking, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born June 27, 1926 in Storm Lake, IA, the son of Henry and Lena (Reifle) Meinking. He grew up in Paola, KS, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 during WWII in occupied Japan.
Hank graduated from KU in 1951 with a degree in Engineering. He worked with various construction companies in a five-state area and entered into a partnership from 1958-1971 in Topeka. He then worked 11 years for the Shawnee County Public Works Department. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing and hunting with his family and friends.
Hank married Doris Bratton on June 22, 1952 in Paola, KS. She survives. Other survivors include four children, Mary Sands, Ruth (Rich) Meinking, Russell (Kathy) Meinking, Jolene (Bob) Yunger, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Hank was preceded in death by his only sibling, Luverne Frazier.
Graveside committal services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church. Hank will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 S.W.
