Henry F. Mann, Jr.

Henry F. Mann, Jr., 76, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center. He was born on April 10, 1932 in Randolph, the son of Henry and Ellen C. Lundberg Mann, Sr. He graduated from Randolph High School and Kansas State University where he obtained a BS in Education. Henry was an Air Force veteran, serving twenty years from November of 1951 through December of 1971. He was a member of First Christian Church, the Capital City Gun Club, the Military Order of The Cooties where he served as the past commander of the state, Post No. 400 of the American Legion and Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W. where he served as past post commander and was also an active volunteer for the Honor Guard Funeral Detail. He also volunteered at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center. Henry married Mary Jane Botterweck-Verschelden on May 31, 1994 in Newton. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Donna Morgan and husband, Bruce of Shawnee, Carol Bachofer and husband, Tom of Sierra Vista, AZ, one step-daughter, Linda Watkins and husband, Tom of Frisco, CO, two step-sons, Steven Verschelden of Hanford, CA, Greg Verschelden of Littleton, CO, three grandchildren, Jessie May, Jennifer and Michael, one sister, Gloria Finley of Columbia, MO and one niece, Jennifer Finley. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church where military honors will be presented by Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W. Graveside committal services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery near Randolph. Henry will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the V.F.W. National Home for Children, 3573 S. Waverly Rd., Eaton Rapids, MI 48827 or Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W., 3110 S.W. Huntoon, Topeka, KS 66604.
