Helen Woodard Dillon, 90, passed away on May 26, 2011. She was born August 25, 1920, in Elmont, KS, the daughter of Harold and Mary Duffey Woodard. On May 5, 1944, she married Clifford James "Doc" Dillon. He preceded her in death in July of 1980. She was a graduate of Seaman High School and later earned her Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State University in Home Economics. After graduation, she taught at Oskaloosa High School and later for Seaman School District. For several years, she was involved with her church organizations and was a sewing and cooking leader in 4-H. Helen and Doc were avid campers and fisherman.
Survivors include two sons, Willis "Bill" (wife Jane) Dillon and Steven J. (wife Joyce) Dillon; daughter, Janice Dillon Black; daughter in law, Sue (Dillon) Biggs; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister, Thelma Calderwood; son, Daniel Joe Dillon; and son in law, James "Jim" Black.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Seaman Congregational Church, 2036 NW Taylor, Topeka, KS 66608. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. Helen will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Seaman Congregational Church or Brewster Place Foundation, 1205 SW 29th Street, Topeka, KS 66611.
